Community Counselors

Amendment of 23-August-2020 adopted policies; adopted on 13-Nov-2022

Background:

When the cemetery was created in 1887, Dr. Green (the founder) also appointed five “Counselors” who were intended to assist in the operations of the facility, to wit: Starr, Pierson, Roe, Livermore and Cattell – for whom the pathways in the cemetery are so named. There are no records to indicate the duties or responsibilities of these persons, save only that Dr. Green apparently trusted their individual and collective judgement. The counselors were not officers of the cemetery, and were not designated within the governing codicil, save Mr. Starr who was named both as an executor of the will and one of the original trustees (under will) of the facility.

In keeping with Dr. Green’s vision, and being mindful of the need to be a “responsible neighbor”, the Trustee’s should amend the previously adopted “policies” (as verse the formal ”Rules” which are filed with NJCB) in order to periodically appoint persons as “Community Counselors”.
